About AKA:

AKA is a registered National Non-Government Organization (NGO) non governmental organization with a mission to provide Rwandan youth with employability skills, capital and support to take advantage of economic opportunities. Currently, AKA is implementing multiple donor’s projects including Unlocking Youth employment opportunities through food systems in the Eastern Province of Rwanda funded by Master card Foundation (MCF) through Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA)

AKA is hiring a project Accountant that will assume accounting/finance of AGRA Project and will be responsible of the budget monitoring and accurate reporting. The position is located at Kigali office and report to the Director of Administration and Finance.

Essential functions include [but are not limited to]:

  • Support the project financial management /accounting system
  • Prepare payments after ensuring that support documents are complete
  • Maintain journal entries of wire transfers and receipts
  • Record all transactions into accounting system (Quickbook software)
  • Respond to wire transfer inquiries as appropriate
  • Organize and maintain accounting filing system (electronic & hard copies)
  • Assure accuracy of supporting documentation and entries for accounts reporting
  • Resolve any discrepancies or clarification for accounting records
  • Analyze staff receivables and other advances to ensure accurate balances.
  • Verify justification of advances by staff from field activities and ensure no advance is provided before previous advance is justified
  • Analyze on a monthly basis the ProjectTrial balance to ensure monthly adjustments where necessary
  • Maintain accurate and complete accounting records and audit information
  • Comply and adhere to the project Agreements and donor regulations and procedures
  • Prepare the project quarterly financial reports for the Donor
  • Track budget/expenses to ensure proper cash flow
  • Assist with financial audit preparation
  • Ensure any project taxes declaration and payments
  • Compile project staff monthly timesheets and prepare a table for salaries allocation to projects
  • Prepare the monthly staff payroll
  • Reconcile on a monthly basis the project bank accounts
  • Manage the petty cash
  • Maintain cheque register & cheque books in a safe
  • Participate in budgeting and cash forecasts process
  • Put on file/ electronic and hard copies filing of all Finance vouchers, Financial Reports Budget, project agreements and all related finance documents. With all required support documents
  • Ensure project assets inventory
  • Ensure costs are fairly allocated to the project
  • Prepare the Monthly Project Fund balance
  • Participate in the project budgeting process
  • Perform any other task as requested by the supervisor,

Job requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Management of finance
  • Three years’ experience in accounting or auditing
  • Computer skills: MS office, advanced Excel preferred
  • Good knowledge of accounting software packages, QuickBooks preferred
  • Good written and verbal skills in English, Kinyarwanda
  • Ability to work in team
  • Demonstrate organizational skills
  • Demonstrate interpersonal and communications skills as well as attention to details.
