1. Background and Rationale

Data is now fundamental to decision-making in all industries, fueling business growth, policy formulation, research innovation, and more. However, efficient data management necessitates more than just access to data, but also the ability to organize, analyze, and safeguard it. Data management is no longer simply the responsibility of IT departments; everyone must handle data efficiently. Data management skills have become essential for workers in a variety of industries, including healthcare, government, education, finance and technology. Data management plays an important role in improving productivity, lowering operating costs, and improving overall decision-making processes.

Data management involves a wide range of activities, including data collection, storage, security, analysis, and visualization. As organizations and institutions generate and rely on more data, there is a greater demand for qualified individuals capable of handling, managing, and analyzing huge information effectively and securely.

The training is 70% practical, ensuring that participants engage directly with the tools and techniques that they will use in their careers.

  • Introduction to KoboToolbox: A deep dive into the tool’s capabilities for field data collection.
  • Creating advanced XLS Data Collection Forms: How to design, implement, and test forms using the KoboToolbox interface.
  • Data Validation: Ensuring the integrity and consistency of data collected via forms.
  • Field Data Management: Using KoboToolbox to track data in real-time and manage remote data collection in challenging environments.
  • Integration with other tools: Techniques for integrating KoboToolbox with external databases or analysis tools.

2. Data Analysis using STATA
STATA is a powerful software tool for data analysis, widely used in social sciences, economics, and public health. This part of the training will focus on key functions of STATA, including data cleaning, analysis, and interpretation.

  • Introduction to STATA: Understanding STATA’s interface and basic commands.
  • Data Cleaning: Techniques for importing, cleaning, and transforming data into analysis-ready formats.
  • Statistical Analysis: Running descriptive statistics, hypothesis tests, regressions, and advanced statistical models using STATA.
  • Data Visualization: Creating informative and visually appealing graphs and charts to communicate results.
  • Managing Large Datasets: Efficiently handling large datasets, including techniques for merging, reshaping, and summarizing data.

3. General Data Management Principles
Beyond tools, data management encompasses principles and best practices that ensure data is organized, secure, and accessible.

  • Data Organization: Structuring data in ways that make it easy to find, retrieve, and use.
  • Data Security and Ethics: Best practices for ensuring data privacy, security, and compliance with regulations.

6. Capstone Projects and Certification

  • Certification: Participants who score 65% or higher will receive a certificate of merit, validating their proficiency in data managementKoboToolbox, and STATA.

7. Lead Trainer’s Profile

An experienced professional who will lead the training has a master’s degree in data science. He is a certified Big Data Analyst by the American Data Science Society. Currently a PhD candidate in Statistics, the trainer brings a strong academic foundation and extensive experience as a consultant to national and international organizations. With a proven track record in providing practical, hands-on training, the trainer is well-equipped to guide participants in mastering data management and analysis techniques.
